A Marketing Resolution for the New Year – Generate “Measured” Business
in 2008
It’s a great time
to reflect on what you did last year and make plans for what you're going to in the New
Year.
- Did you generate the business you felt you deserved in 2006 with the marketing
dollars you spent?
- Next year at this time would you like to say “I feel great about
the ROI (return on investment) I generated from the marketing investments
I made”?
With Specialty Magazines, Direct Mail, Websites, Email, Blogs, RSS, Wikis,
Mobile Marketing, Satellite Radio & TV, Tivo, Cable, Billboards (even Bathroom Wall ads)
and more, it’s tougher than ever to market effectively to your prospects
and customers. The only way you stand a chance is to develop a systematic approach
to your marketing.
A “Measured Marketing System” helps determine which marketing
techniques are working and which are not. This enables you to refine your marketing
investments to become continually more productive and cost effective.
The foundation of a Measured Marketing System:
- Established Marketing Goals – what do you want to
achieve in 2006? Be as specific as you can. Maybe your goal is to acquire
more new customers or cross-sell and up-sell to current customers or retain
customers longer.
- Customer & Prospect profile database – a key
to successful marketing is truly understanding your customers. You need to
know what they want & why, how they want it, where they get their information
to purchase your types of products or services, etc. The more you know about
your customers, the better you can serve them and the longer they’ll
buy from you….AND, it helps you acquire more customers like them.
- Marketing-Focused Website – this is where most people
begin their shopping process today. Make sure your website is ready to perform
or you can lose a prospect in seconds. Your website should do two things:
Quickly tell prospects why they should buy from you and make it easy for
them to buy from you.
- Marketing Effectiveness Measurement System – The
right metrics for your situation and a systematic way to measure them is
how you determine which marketing efforts are winners and which ones you
should dump.
Start now. Make a resolution to generate “measured business” in
2007 so next year at this time you’ll be smiling about the progress you’ve
